As I mentioned before, I have been writing short stories for submission, and the due date is finally here. It's been a long road and a lot of editing, making me think I should share my process with you, my readers, and prospective writers.

Everyone's process is different, so my way won't necessarily work for you, but give it a go and tweak it to your liking.

  • First, I write a completed first draft - usually with minimal planning.

  • Then, I go through and edit any continuity errors in the story.

  • Followed by flushing out the character dynamics and development a bit.

  • And rounding off with a close look at grammar, spelling, word choice, and all the fun stuff.

  • Before submitting, I drown myself in the tiniest details, worrying over the overuse of certain words - a good trick is not to have the same word (like darkness) used more than two times in five hundred words.

Happy writing!
